Chelsea Demand £22m For Michy Batshuayi As Crystal Palace Target Him For January Transfer

Crystal Palace are ready to make a new move for Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi in the January transfer window.

The Selhurst Park side, currently sixth in the Premier League, want to boost their forward line when the transfer window reopens, and have made Batshuayi their prime winter target.

The 26-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Selhurst Park and scored six times in 11 starts for Roy Hodgson’s team.

The Belgian, rated at around £22million, returned to Chelsea in the summer for a fresh attempt to try and nail down a regular place under new head coach Frank Lampard.

He has scored three goals in six appearances, though only one of those was a start, with five substitute run outs.

Batshuayi scored Chelsea’s final goal in their 4-1 win at Southampton on Sunday, his first league strike for the club since October 2017, though he has since had loan spells at Borussia Dortmund, Valencia and Palace.

But he has now seen his path blocked by the in-form Tammy Abraham, who has scored nine goals and established himself as Lampard’s main striker.

Palace though hope Chelsea could be persuaded to part with Batshuayi with Abraham’s emergence, and with Olivier Giroud still in Lampard’s squad as cover.

By January, Batshuayi will have only 18 months left on the contract he signed in 2016 when he joined from Marseille for £32m.

Batshuayi has previously scored some important goals for Chelsea, including the one which clinched the Blues a fifth Premier League title against West Brom at the Hawthorns in 2017.

He also notched a 90th-minute winner in Chelsea’s Champions League group stage game against Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano in the following season.
