The Brazilian’s transfer saga was the story of the summer, and eventually ended with him staying at Paris Saint-Germain, but now Marca have reported more of what happened behind the scenes.
They allege that Neymar was not keen on moving back to Barcelona two years after leaving, and instead contacted four Real Madrid players in order to try and force a move to the Bernabeu.
Sergio Ramos, Luka Modric, Marcelo and Casemiro – the latter two his Brazilian team-mates – are the four players Neymar is said to have spoken to, but Real Madrid decided they did not want to pursue a move for the forward.
The reason for Real’s reluctance was a mixture of exorbitant costs and the fact that both Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez did not secure moves away from the club.
It was only at that point that Neymar considered a return to the Nou Camp, speaking to his old friend Lionel Messi, who is also said to have expressed his desire for Neymar not to join Real Madrid.
