England Drop Man City’s Raheem Sterling For Clash Against Liverpool’s Joe Gomez

England has dropped Raheem Sterling from Euro 2020 qualifier against Montenegro on Thursday after a row with Liverpool defender, Joe Gomez.

Sterling and Gomez clashed during City’s 3-1 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday. It was also reported that they clashed again after meeting for England duty on Monday.

However, Sterling took to instagram to explain that he and Gomez are both ‘good’ now having resolved their differences.

“First and foremost everyone knows what that game means to me! Everyone knows that I am not that way inclined and more to the point. Both Joe and I have had words and figured things out and moved on.” He wrote.

“We are in a sport where emotions run high and I am man enough to admit when emotions got the better of me.”

“Let’s focus on our game on Thursday,” he concluded with three love heart emojis.

But England released a statement on Monday announcing the 24-year old Manchester City forward has been dropped from England squad for Thursday match.

“The FA can confirm Raheem Sterling will not be considered for Thursday’s EURO 2020 qualifier against Montenegro as a result of a disturbance in a private team area at St. George’s Park today. He will remain with the squad.”

“We have taken the decision to not consider Raheem for the match against Montenegro on Thursday.” England coach, Southgate said.

“One of the great challenges and strengths for us is that we’ve been able to separate club rivalries from the national team.

“Unfortunately the emotions of yesterday’s game were still raw. My feeling is that the right thing for the team is the action we have taken.

“Now that the decision has been made with the agreement of the entire squad, it’s important that we support the players and focus on Thursday night.”

Sterling has been in top form for England, scoring eight goals and providing five assists during Euro 2020 qualifiers.

22-year old Gomez won the last of his seven England senior caps during Nations League third place match against Switzerland in June.
