Solskjaer’s Youngsters Suffer Defeat As FC Astana Beat Man Utd 2-1

Manchester United suffered their first Europa league Group L defeat as FC Astana came from behind to score 2-1 against Ole Solskjaer’s young squad.

Since Man Utd have already secured a spot in the last 32, Solskjaer decided to rest his senior team and took a much younger and mainly academy graduates to Nur-Sultan in Kazakhstan to play against the already Europa League eliminated FC Astana.

Jesse Lingard, the oldest and Captain of the team, scored the first goal for the Red Devils to take the lead in the 10th minute.

However, Tahith Chong missed a double lead in the 54th minute. A minute later, Astana’s Dmitriy Shomko levelled for his club.

Then Bernard Shaw’s own goal sealed victory for the Kazhak’s Champions.

Before Astana’s surprise victory, Solskjaer’s youngsters dominated the field. Unfortunately, their lack of experience were particularly glaring with a series of misfired shots.

The match also saw Jesse Lingard return to his goal scoring ways. The young England international has not been in top form since the beginning of this season and was even excluded from international duty during the Euro 2020 qualifiers.

Next, Manchester United will play against Aston Villa on Sunday while FC Astana will end their Europa League Group Stage match by playing against Partizan Belgrade next month.
