Jose Mourinho Makes First Signing As Tottenham Manager

Jose Mourihno has signed his first player, Gedson Fernandes, as Tottenham Hotspur manager on an initial 18-month loan deal.

Mourinho hopes to make the deal permanent reportedly for as much as £65m in the summer of 2021.

21-year-old Fernandes was playing for Benfica as a midfielder before he moved to the Spurs on loan.

Fernandes, who was heavily linked to West Ham whom he turned down, has already completed his Tottenham medicals on Monday.

Mourihno is hoping to sign at least one striker to cover for Harry Kane who is away for sustaining a hamstring injury.

The England international will not return to action until April and Mourinho believes it could affect his ambition to get the Spurs to the top four in premier league.

Tottenham have been plagued with injury problems and apart from Harry Kane, Moussa Sissoko has also been ruled out until April with a knee injury and summer signing Tanguy Ndombele has been unable to stay fit.

Mourinho hasn’t decided on his first-choice midfield with neither Harry Winks nor Eric Dier firing on all cylinders. Fernandes’ move to the club is a very much welcome help to boost the squad.

The Portuguese midfielder has had very little playing time for Benfica since breaking into the first team last season, making just 13 league appearances.
