Mikel Arteta is set to make his first signing as Arsenal are reportedly close to signing a new defender, Pablo Mari from Flamengo on an initial six-month loan deal with an option to buy.
Mari has already flown to England once, believing a deal was close, only for Flamengo to pull out on the move.
However, negotiations restarted and it is expected the deal will be completed before Friday’s transfer deadline.
Flamengo have gone on twitter to confirm that “The time has come to say goodbye” to Pablo Mari, who they also thanked for his time in Brazil.
Arsenal’s defensive problems increased with an injury to Shkodran Mustafi in their FA Cup fourth-round win at Bournemouth on Monday.
Mustafi will undergo a scan after being stretchered out of Vitality Stadium.
