Man City Advance To Carabao Cup Final Despite Being Defeated By Man Utd 1-0

Champions Manchester City will face Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup final, advancing 3-2 on aggregate despite losing a tense second leg to neighbours Manchester United.

City had defeated United 3-1 in the first leg at Old Trafford and they strove to score in the second leg at home.

But United beat them to it when Nemanja Matic scored at the 35th minute before being sent off with a red card in the 76th minute.

David De Gea made a brilliant save for United from Sergio Aguero and Riyad Mahrez shot in the opening minutes.

But he was helpless stop Raheem Sterling’s shot from Kevin de Bruyne’s cross, but the flag was already up for offside.

City wasted more chances to score as United posed a difficult front. It was only when Matic was sent off that the home side had breathing space but even that couldn’t help them equalize.

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola’s side are into the final for a third successive year and will go for their seventh EFL Cup win when they face Villa in the final at Wembley on 1 March.

Liverpool remain the only club to win the Cup a record eight times.
