Man Utd Close To Signing Bruno Fernandes For Initial £47m

Manchester United are close to completing a deal for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

United have been unable to come to agreement for the midfielder since the beginning of the transfer window having refused to meet an asking price of 80m euros (£68m) demanded by Sporting Lisbon.

But a breakthrough was recorded when an initial 55m euros (£47m) was agreed on with additional fees which could make it up to 80m euros.

This will be the biggest deal in the January transfer window in the Premier League so far if Old Trafford succeed in signing Fernandes.

25-year-old Fernandes joined Sporting from Sampdoria for £7.2m in 2017 where he scored 64 goals in 137 matches in all competitions and won the Portuguese Cup in 2018-19. He was also named the Primeira Liga’s player of the year in both 2017-18 and 2018-19.

Fernandes also played 19 times for Portugal and was part of the squad that won the Uefa Nations League.

Signing to Manchester United will be a big plus since manager Solskjaer has prioritised signing midfielders this month to boost his squad.
