‘Messi Will Stay In Barcelona’ Guardiola Dismisses Rumours Of Striker Moving To Man City

Pep Guardiola has dismissed rumours of Lionel Messi joining him in Manchester City during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Messi, 32, has spent all of his career with Barca but has a clause allowing him to leave for free this summer.

But there are reports that the Argentine striker is no longer happy at Barcelona and wants to leave.

His request for another striker to be signed as he is the only lethal striker in Barça since Luis Suarez was sidelined due to injury and Griezmann was still struggling as a winger, was largely ignored.

Messi also reached his boiling point when he publicly called out Eric Abidal, for claiming that the Barca players were not working hard enough under their previous boss, Ernesto Valverde.

Guardiola has categorically refused to take sides, saying, “I’m not going to talk about players for other clubs.”

The Spaniard, who coached Messi at the Nou Camp between 2008 and 2012, winning three La Ligas and two Champions Leagues, believes Messi should spend the rest of his career in Barcelona.

“He will stay there [at Barca], that’s my wish,” said the City boss.

“I think he will finish his career there.” He added.

Messi has won the Ballon d’Or player award six times, 10 league titles and four Champions Leagues under Barcelona and is under contract until 2021.

Guardiola, who left Barca for Bayern Munich having become their most successful manager, with 14 trophies in four seasons, went on to win three successive league titles in Germany and has won the Premier League for the last two seasons with City, although they are behind Liverpool by 22 points with only 13 games remaining this season.

Meanwhile, Barca are three points behind leaders Real Madrid in La Liga.
