Manchester City Knocked Out Of Champions League By Lyon

Manchester City were stunned out of champions league by a very determined Lyon 3-1 with Moussa Dembélé  scoring twice for the French side in the quarter final on Saturday.

Despite City’s indomitable trio, Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus, Lyon who finished seventh in Ligue 1 still dealt with the English giants.

City paid for Gaurdiola’s decision to deploy an unfamiliar five-man defense when Lyon’s Maxwel Cornet opened the scoring in the 24th minute.

It was downhill from there for City as one of the most expensively assembled squads in football history were so confused that they allowed a much lesser popular squad to yeye them on the pitch.

However, City seemed to bounce back when Kevin De Bruyne equalized in the 69th minute but Dembélé restored the lead for Lyon ten minutes later.

Sterling missed a costly goal as he blazed the ball over an empty net and City paid for it with Dembélé’s second goal in the 87th minute bringing the tie to 3-1.

Lyon spent the rest of the match successfully defending their lead from a suddenly alert City and the final whistle couldn’t have sounded any better as the French outsiders reached Champions League semi-final for the first time.

Lyon will now face Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich who hammered Barcelona 8-2 on Friday as reported by FrujuSports, in the semi-finals.
