Stoke City Set To Sign Mikel Obi On One-Year Deal

Stoke City are set to sign former Chelsea star Mikel Obi on a one-year deal.

Obi is a free agent and left Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor by mutual consent as reported by FrujuSports.

FrujuSports also reported that the former Nigeria captain earlier announced that he was open to England return.

The 33-year-old has enjoyed a successful career, achieving his most success with Chelsea having made 249 appearances during his eleven year spell and helping the club win the Champions League and Europa League, two Premier Leagues, three FA Cups and the League Cup.

Obi also won 89 caps for Nigeria which include a bronze medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, winning the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and also captained his team to a third place finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt before announcing his retirement last year.

Stoke City on the other hand have won three of their last four games in 2019-20 Championship to escape relegation trouble and finish 15th under former Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill.
