Mikel Obi Becomes Stoke City Player

Former Chelsea star, John Mikel Obi has officially returned to English football as he signed to become a Stoke City player.

Obi who was formerly linked to newly promoted West Bromwich Albion signed to Championship side Stoke City on Monday.

“We’re delighted to bring John to the club,” Stoke manager Michael O’Neill told the official Potters website.

“His playing career speaks for itself and underlines his calibre as a player.

“We spent four hours talking and he made it clear he wants to get back into the Premier League and finish his career there, and hopefully he can do that with Stoke City.”

Obi had a successful career in Chelsea for seven years having made 249 appearances and helping the club win the Champions League and Europa League, two Premier Leagues, three FA Cups and the League Cup.

He also won 89 caps for Nigeria which include a bronze medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, winning the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and also captained his team to a third place finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt before announcing his retirement last year.
