PSG Eliminate RB Leipzig 3-0 To Reach First Champions League Final

Paris Saint-German are on the brink of making club history after beating RB Leipzig 3-0 to reach their first Champions League final.

Goals from Marquinhos and Angel Di Maria in the 13th and 42nd minutes respectively gave the French side a 2-0 advantage before half time.

Then Juan Bernat scored the third goal for the dominant PSG to comfortably cruise to the Champions League Final.

PSG have always been eliminated in the last 16 for the past three years. But this time, the French giants beat all odds to book a place at the final.

With French World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe back to the starting lineup after recovering from an ankle injury, head coach Tuchel was able to form a very effective striking trio- Mbappe, Neymar and Di Maria.

He was right as these trio scattered Leipzig’s defence with Neymar and Di Maria lining up to take a free kick which Di Maria crossed to Marquinhos who opened the scoring.

“We showed quality and determination. A good mix. We deserved to win,” said Tuchel, who had been dealing with pressure to deliver.

“I felt the pressure, it was not easy. I have players who are used to playing with this pressure, who like this pressure and these decisive matches.”

PSG have played 110 games in the competition surpassing Arsenal’s record of 90 (1971-2006) to become the most played sides before reaching their first finals.

The French champions only other appearances in the final of a European competition came with their UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup victory in 1996 and their runners-up spot in the following season.

Olympique Marseille is the only French club to win the Champions League, beating AC Milan to grab the title in 1993.

Meanwhile, PSG who are celebrating the 50th anniversary of their founding in 1970, will face the winner of Wednesday’s semifinal between Bayern Munich and surprising top contender Lyon.
