Dessers Takes Responsibility For Missed Penalty In Genk’s Defeat To Club Brugge

Cyriel Dessers has taken responsibility for Genk’s 2-1 home defeat to Club Brugge on Sunday’s Belgian Pro League clash.

Hans Vanaken had netted the opening goal Club Brugge through Emmanuel Dennis’ set up.

Dessers missed the chance to equalise for the hosts when he failed to convert a penalty two minutes after the break.

He also conceded a cheap corner after Theo Bongonda equalised for Genk. And seven minutes to time, Brugge scored the winning goal.

“We played a good second period,” a disappointed Dessers told reporters after the game.

“But this defeat is my responsibility, because I missed the penalty and in addition I conceded the corner on Badji’s goal. I have to do better. It’s a shame, because after the break we put more pressure and we played better.

” It was a great opportunity to take points and we didn’t deserve to lose this Sunday “.

The 25-year-old has scored once in four league outings for Genk this season.

FrujuSports had reported that Dessers was one of the players to receive a call-up to represent Nigeria in the AFCON qualifiers against Sierra Leone before the coronavirus pandemic which locked down all sports activities worldwide.
