Eberechi Eze Makes EPL Debut As Crystal Palace Beat Southampton 1-0 In Opening Game

Nigeria-eligible player Eberechi Eze made his English Premier League debut for Crystal Palace who beat Southampton 1-0 through Wilfred Zaha’s volley in the opening game on Saturday.

Eze substituted Jeffrey Schlupp in the 80th minute after Zaha scored his 50th career league goal in the 13th minute.

Zaha thought he had doubled Palace lead after Eze found James McArthur, who clipped a ball over the top for the  Ivorian but his well taken effort ruled out for offside after consultation from VAR.

Southampton made several attempts to equalise with Nathan Redmond denied by Guaita before the Palace goalkeeper brilliantly saved Che Adams’ volley on 53 minutes.

In the 50th minute Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters was shown a straight red for a high-challenge on Tyrick Mitchell but it was downgraded to a yellow card.

Guaita also denied Danny Ings a stoppage-time equaliser as Palace held on for their first home win in an opening match of a Premier League season.
