Man Utd 3-2 Brighton: Dramatic 100th Minute Penalty Hands United First EPL Victory Of The Season

A dramatic injury-time penalty gave Manchester United victory against Brighton and a first three points in 2020/21 premier league match at Amex Stadium.

Bruno Fernandes coolly stroked in the winning penalty, spotted and awarded via a VAR check for Neal Maupay’s handball from a corner, all after on-field official Chris Kavanagh had blown to signal the end of the match.

Brighton had taken the lead through a Maupay penalty before United clawed their way back into the ascendency thanks to an own goal by Lewis Dunk and a superb solo effort from Marcus Rashford.

The visitors thought they had sealed a point to compensate for their fine efforts when Solly March headed in a cross from Alireza Jahanbakhsh.

The hosts also struck the bar five times and saw one awarded penalty overruled by VAR and another potential one waved away by Kavanagh.

To add to the drama, United had two goals ruled out for offside.

Finally, it was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side who emerged winners despite a very poor start at Brighton and a trailing criticism of their previous Premier League outing in which United suffered 3-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace.
