Ter Stegen Refuses New Barça Contract, Aims To Become World’s Most Expensive Goalkeeper

Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen has reportedly refused to renew his contract unless he is made the Club’s second highest paid player after Lionel Messi.

According to Goal, the Germany international aims to become the highest paid goalkeeper in the world.

The 28-year-old who previously earned  £22million yearly had agreed to take a wage cut of £16m due to the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

However, Ter Stegen wants to be the most expensive goalkeeper in the world and this is keeping him from signing a new contract with Barça.

La Blaugrana are finding it difficult meeting his demands as they have already reduced their budget and staff costs due to lack of sales of tickets from fans.

Goal also claim that Ter Stegen’s contract renewal has brought division between members of staff due to the harsh economic conditions.

The German shot-stopper is currently focusing on recovering from a knee surgery but believes the demands in his new deal will be met.
