Super Eagles Player Onyeka Set For Big Midtjylland UCL Clash Vs Liverpool

Newly capped Super Eagles player Frank Onyeka was named in Midtjylland Champions League squad ahead of tie with Liverpool later tonight.

Onyeka started and played for 87 minutes last week as Midtjylland lost 0-4 at home against Atalanta in their Champions League opening Group D game.

The 22-year old then played all 90 minutes as Midtjylland recorded a 3-2 away win against Brondby at the weekend in a Danish SuperLiga game.

Onyeka who made his international debut for Nigeria in the 1-0 loss to Algeria in an international friendly in Austria penultimate weekend was in Midtjylland’s squad that arrived England on Monday.

He has scored one Champions League goal and an assist to his credit so far for Midtjylland having scored against Slavia Prague and bagged an assist against Ludogorets.

Tuesday’s match against Liverpool will be the Nigerian international’s six Champions League appearance since he made his debut in a qualifier against Astana in 2018.

Meanwhile, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hailed Midtjylland for their use of science “in different ways” and specific works in football.

“After yesterday, I know a lot about them. Before that, I knew about them and their history, where they use science in different ways and work very specifically,”Klopp told a news conference.

“It is a very interesting project, I must say.

“When I took a break, I was interested in going to Midtjylland and Brentford just to see what it is they do exactly. But then I signed with Liverpool and so it could not be done. But it shows that they were interesting already five years ago.

“I’ve seen a lot of matches since yesterday, so I’m in the picture around FCM now. They are good, really good, and the 0-4 match against Atalanta was not a 0-4 match.”
