Wright Warns Ighalo Over Cavani

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has warned Odion Ighalo and Anthony Martial about what ace striker Edinson Cavani’s signing potentially means for them at Manchester United.

Wright who is an admirer of Cavani, expressed worry that the Uruguayan’s arrival at Old Trafford might impact negatively at Ighalo and Martial.

The legendary striker compared Cavani’s arrival to his own experience in his career when a young Nicolas Anelka arrived at Arsenal.

After a few training sessions seeing Anelka’s quality up close, Wright sensed the ‘end was nigh’ and his energy changed.

And he warned both Martial and Ighalo they could find themselves in a similar situation now they’re in contention with Cavani.

“I saw a picture of him the other day,” he said on his podcast Wrighty’s House.

“As a striker, I know Anthony Martial and even Ighalo, you see him come in… your whole energy just goes somewhere – it’s not right.

“I remember when Anelka came in. He was 17 and after the first two sessions of watching somebody of that calibre come in – and I know Cavani is of world class status now but Anelka watching him then – my energy changed because I knew that the end was nigh.

“Now I’m not saying the end is nigh for Martial and it can’t be with Cavani, with him coming in stopping the gap.”

Cavani is currently Paris Saint Germain’s highest goalscorer with 200 goals.

He made his debut for United in the draw against Chelsea last weekend.

Cavani was also in action in the Red Devils’ Champions League 5-0 thrashing of RB Leipzig on Wednesday night while Ighalo was benched.
