NFF Resists Call To Sack Rohr

President of the Nigeria Football Federation Amaju Pelvin Pinnick has declared support for Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr despite the team’s dismal performance in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier double header against Sierra Leone.

The Super Eagles threw away their four-goal lead in Benin City on Friday and couldn’t score a single goal during the return match in Freetown.

And some Nigerians, including the Youths and Sports Minister Sunday Dare, have made calls to remove Rohr as the head coach of the national team.

But Pinnick has backed the former Gabon and Niger coach to continue on the job.

“Rohr has done well as our coach, qualifying us for the World Cup and finishing third at the AFCON. It was the same coach who beat Argentina and drew with Brazil in friendlies,” Pinnick declared during his appearance on NTA’s Sports Parliament.

“He has our full support.”

Gernot Together who was appointed in 2016, renewed his contract with the NFF in March this year.
