Man City, Real Madrid Reach Champions League Quarterfinals

Manchester City saw off Borussia Monchengladbach in a 2-0 win to book a place at the Champions League quarterfinals.

Sensational goals from Kevin de Bruyne in 11 minutes of the game and Ilkay Gundogan in the 18th minute gave the premier league giants the tickets to the quarterfinals.

City continued their dominance in the second half, but were nearly punished in the 56th minute as Gladbach pestered their hosts into conceding a corner that nearly earned them a goal.

Pep Guardiola’s men eventually managed to hold on as they strolled to a 2-0 win and 4-0 on aggregate.

Pep Guardiola’s side hope to break the quarterfinals jinx this season, having failed to move past the stage in their last four attempts.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid booked their tickets to the Champions League last eight after defeating Atalanta 3-1 in the second leg.

Goals by striker Karim Benzema, a spot-kick by Sergio Ramos and late goal by Marco Asensio saw the Spanish giants through to the quarterfinals.

Atalanta’s Luis Muriel scored the only goal for the italian side in the 76th minute but it wasn’t enough to beat Los Blancos.
