Hudson-Odoi Meets With Ghana President Amid Calls To Switch Allegiance

Chelsea player Callum Hudson-Odoi has met with Ghana President Nana Akufo-Addo amid calls for him to switch nationality to the West African Country.

Hudson-Odoi was part of the Chelsea squad that won the Champions League after defeating Manchester City 1-0 last month.

The 20-year-old has been capped three times for England but was dropped from Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2020 squad.

Now there are calls for the Chelsea star to switch allegiance to Ghana where he is currently spending the summer holidays.

Callum Bismark Odoi was a cult hero at Ghana Premier League giants Hearts of Oak in the 90s before relocating to England.

President Akufo-Addo said: “On Monday, June 7, 2021, Ghanaian-born Chelsea footballer, Callum Hudson-Odoi, paid a courtesy call on me at Jubilee House, the seat of our nation’s presidency. “Amongst others, I urged the Minister for Youth and Sports to explore the possibility of having Callum switch nationality, and play for the Black Stars.”

And in a colourful event hosted by the Blues supporters in the Gold Coast, Hudson-Odoi was special guest as fans sang the club’s official theme song ‘Blue is the colour’.

It is also understood that the former England U23 player is considering taking advantage of the new FIFA rules to switch allegiance to Ghana after failing to make Southgate’s Euro 2022 squad.

The likes of Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka has limited Hudson-Odoi’s chances of making it through to the national team.

He has also lost favor at Thomas Tuchel-led Chelsea and has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer.
